About Us

Transportation Management Consultants came into being as a result of many years in the trucking industry and the recognition of a great need for cost cutting measures today as shippers and carriers alike struggle with the financial issues of our current economy. Many companies find themselves cutting back, or worse case scenario, declaring bankruptcy due to rising fuel costs, reduced customer bases, and fierce competition. The current climate requires that companies pursue every possible avenue to increase revenues and cut costs in order to thrive, or in some cases, simply stay afloat.

TMC was conceived by owner and CEO, Dave Levine, who has intimate knowledge of the problems transportation companies face. He has had more than 40 years experience himself, most of which was gained during his employment with Alterman Transport Lines (ATL), a national carrier that specialized in refrigerated goods. Dave began with ATL in his 20s working in the shop, on the dock, and in the general office. His superior performance led to many promotions beginning with Night Supervisor, Day Supervisor, Dispatcher, Assistant Terminal Manager and finally the Terminal Manager at the primary location in Miami, Florida at the age of 29. During the latter years at ATL, Dave moved from Terminal Operations Manager to the VP of Operations where he served the company until it’s dissolution after the passing of founder and owner, Sidney Alterman.

As part of his work with ATL, Dave spent a good deal of time in travelling around the country to various terminals where he dealt with issues of procedure, staff, budgeting, and general management. He gained an integral knowledge of the problems and issues that transportation companies confront, and was able to create many solutions and systemic changes that resulted in greater efficiency, cost effectiveness, and staff compliance, not to mention morale. In short, Dave has had experience with every facet of running a transportation company and has a wealth of knowledge in solving problems that keep companies from functioning optimally, growing, and thriving.

  • The issues that he has found to be “key” to a company’s success are:
  • Linking shippers with the right carriers based on the type and amount of freight being shipped.
  • Accurately billing for all services both on the shipping and carrier end.
  • Correctly classifying freight and making sure that the costs related to shipment of freight are accurately assessed and recorded.
  • Finding the best possible carrier discounts to match shipping needs.
  • Establishing discount agreements that specify amounts, percentages, and length of time the discount is in place.
  • Creating budgets that are realistic, inclusive, accurate, and that can be easily tracked
  • Creating an auditing system that reviews billing prior to payment and checks for shipper/carrier descriptions, freight classification, duplications and discounts.

Transportation Management Consultants has been created to deal with these issues by providing hands-on services that are aimed at improving cash-flow, keeping shipping costs down by pre-auditing billing prior to payment, analyzing budgetary systems, facilitating rate negotiations and carrier selection, and creating in-house systems to establish regular evaluation and analysis of the issues cited above.

Dave Levine’s goals in creating TMC is to save companies money while helping them to create better management systems for containing costs in-house. His experience, love of the industry, dedication, and attention to individualized customer needs make TMC a valuable partner for any company involved in transportation. No problem is too small and all customers are important and valued!.
