Freight Classification

The transportation industry is plagued with errors in the billing system due to inaccurate Freight Classification as well as ambiguous shipment descriptions on the Bill of Lading. While this problem can be costly to Carriers, it can also sometimes be equally financially detrimental to Shippers.  Some examples of the kinds of errors that are made are:

  • Billing a consignee for shipments that are prepaid

  • Billing third party shipments to the wrong party

  • Billing the wrong shipper for a shipment

  • Overlooking an agreed upon discount or contractual rate deal

  • Inverting numbers on an order such as 200 lbs. of a class 60 commodity to 60 lbs. of a class 200 commodity

  • Rewriting a shipper's description on the bill of lading to something that is entirely different on the freight bill

TMC is dedicated to reviewing Freight Classifications and Shipment Descriptions on the Bill of Lading with a microscopic eye to correct errors before they become costly problems that are difficult to unravel.  The sooner errors are uncovered and corrected, the sooner real financial damage will be avoided.

We cannot overemphasize the importance of having trained experts review your Bills of Lading, Freight Classifications, and Shipment descriptions to avoid these very costly errors!
